Dow launches next generation of EDI for industrial water treatment

Layout of the Dow EDI unit.
A new generation of electrodeionization (EDI) equipment for industrial water treatment was launched on 28 June 2010 by Dow Water & Process Solutions (DW&PS) at Singapore International Water Week (SIWW).

The Dow™ Electrodeionization 310 module is claimed to lower operating costs by up to 15% for electronics manufacturers, refineries, chemical operations and power generation facilities.

"Dow EDI modules optimize performance, maintain continuous product quality and can produce up to 18 megaohm-cm of water for high-purity and industrial water applications," said Lance Johnson, global commercial director for Dow Water & Process Solutions. "The Dow Electrodeionization 310 module incorporates this product performance into an advanced design that minimizes system complexity and shrinks the overall system footprint."

The Dow Electrodeionization 310 module eliminates the need for a brine recirculation loop, lowering both capital and operating costs. Dow is also one of the only companies to offer spiral-wound EDI, a design innovation that simplifies maintenance, decreases module weight and increases system design flexibility for OEMs.

Dow is also using SIWW (28 June - 2 July 2010) to launch version 7.2.1 of ROSA design software for systems using reverse osmosis and nanofiltration. ROSA 7.2.1 is upgraded to more accurately predict ammonium and nitrate rejection rates, better represent the effect of operating conditions and to enable multiple simulations with incremental temperature and flow factors.
