Modesto water quality project gets Siemens MBR equipment

MemPulse MBR equipment with air scouring technology significantly reduces energy consumption.
Equipment for a 12.6 MGD (47,700 m³/d) membrane bioreactor (MBR) system is to be supplied to City of Modesto, California, USA, by Siemens Water Technologies for the Jennings Road Water Quality Control Facility.

Valued at more than US$10 million, the MemPulse MBR equipment will be incorporated into the City's Phase 2 biological nutrient removal (BNR)/Tertiary Treatment Project to meet new state discharge permit requirements.

The Phase 2 design, which includes six membrane tanks each with 448 membrane modules, was selected on 20-year lifecycle value. The MBR equipment is an integral component of the Phase 2 plant expansion, expected to be operational by early 2016. Siemens is teaming with the city and Carollo Engineers, which has responsibility for the overall BNR solution for the city.

The MemPulse MBR equipment features air scouring technology, which significantly reduces energy consumption by lowering the amount of air required for membrane cleaning. Once constructed, the Jennings Road facility will be the largest MBR installation in North America to use Siemens equipment and the second largest worldwide.
