New deionizer reduces hardness to 2ppm

Siemens chose the Singapore Water Week to introduce its VNX-HH electrodeionization (EDI) module with higher feedwater hardness tolerance.

The new module claims a significant advancement in feedwater hardness tolerance, to 2 parts per million (ppm) as calcium carbonate (CaCO3), a hardness level four times the industry standard of 0.5 ppm. This feature provides options for treating difficult feedwater, and offers considerable capital cost savings by eliminating the need for two-pass reverse osmosis (RO) in many applications.

A result of extensive research and development, the new VNX-HH EDI module reduces the hardness scaling potential of the water through a proprietary combination of membranes, resins and module construction.

Patrick Buzzell, EDI product manager at Siemens, said: "Because the VNX-HH EDI module removes the necessity for two-pass RO in the treatment train, customers can save on capital costs while simplifying their water treatment design. Now, a typical treatment train would include anti-scalant prior to a single-pass RO system, followed by the Ionpure VNX-HH module, to produce high-purity water without EDI hardness scaling."
