Dow unveils two new RO desalination membranes

Two new reverse-osmosis desalination membranes were announced by Dow Water & Process Solutions on 8 March 2011, offering best-in-class performance of water treatment for a wide range of commercial applications.

The innovative Dow Filmtec™ LC HR 4040 and LC LE 4040 elements utilize advanced membrane chemistry to deliver high-quality water at low total cost of ownership.

With a rejection rate of 99.7%, the LC HR 4040 provides more than 40% reduction in salt passage and 20% improvement in flow rate over the existing Filmtec BW30-4040 high-rejection element. The membrane is ideally suited for processes with high-quality/high-volume water requirements such as those found in pharmaceutical, car wash and industrial applications.

The low-energy LC LE 4040 element delivers high-quality water in low-pressure operations, expanding water purification capacity even in harsh feed water conditions. This element offers over 25% improvement in flow rate and reduction in salt passage, compared with earlier Filmtec elements, with the added benefit of increased energy savings.

The LC LE 4040 element is appropriate for use in large commercial applications such as hotels, restaurants and water vending machines.
