Tordera expansion to use ERI devices

The energy recovery contract for the expansion of the Tordera seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) desalination plant near Barcelona, Spain, has been awarded to Energy Recovery Inc.

The expansion is contracted to a consortium of Spanish companies, Acciona Agua, Aqualia and FCC, and will couble the production capacity of the plant to 55,000 m³/d (14.5 MGD). ERI will supply 60 PX-260 devices to replace outdated turbine-based energy-recovery devices. The plant will be able to reduce energy consumption by over 2 million kWh/y or 16% and will require no new high-pressure pumps.
