Spanish pipemaker Protesa has been awarded a contract for the supply and installation of glass-reinforced plastic pipes and fittings for the desalination plant at the Paraguaná Refinery in Venezuela, in collaboration with Acciona Agua.
This desalination plant is located on the Paraguaná peninsula and has a capacity of 75,000 m³/d.
The aim of the project is to boost sustainable development on the peninsula, which is situated in a very arid area in northeast Venezuela. The desalinated water will both fulfill the industrial requirements of the refinery itself, as well as supplying water for the local distribution network. The latter will have a positive effect on the area, as it will promote agriculture and tourism, providing a needed boost for economy of the region.
