Poseidon asked for new mitigation plans for Carlsbad

The California Coastal Commission has asked Poseidon Resources, developer of the Carlsbad desalination project, to submit alternative sites for restoration as part of its mitigation requirement.

Poseidon had originally proposed restoring a wetland in the Otay River Floodplain in the San Diego National Wildlife Refuge to make up for any marine life destroyed by the 189,000 m³/d desalination plant. However, commissioners are concerned about the proximity of this site to the South Bay power plant and, at a meeting on 15 October 2010, asked Poseidon for alternative proposals for consideration.
