Oman’s Al Ghubra Power and Desalination Company has achieved its target of filling 90% of its managerial posts with Omani nationals according to chief executive officer Ali Al Raisi.
“Now, we are working on Omanisation at the level of heads of departments, because the idea of Omanisation in the company begins from the highest positions, then managerial position, the middle level positions and then down the ranks,” said Al Raisi.
Oman’s National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) has reported that 82,000 expats working in the private sector had left their jobs between January 2013 and May 2014 while the number of expats working in the private sector fell over the same period by 6% to almost 1.25 million.
Meanwhile Operations and maintenance company Suez – Tractebel Operation and Maintenance Oman (STOMO) has appointed Mike Maudsley as General Manager, responsible for the company’s operations in the sultanate.
Maudsley joined STOMO from the UK where he was station manager for the Deeside and Shotton power stations.
The plants that STOMO operates are responsible for make up two thirds of Oman’s electricity capacity and one half of Oman’s demand for potable water.
STOMO claims that since its merger with Sogex Oman in May 2009 it has become be the largest provider of operation and maintenance services in the Oman.
