New EIA submitted for Antofagasta desalination plant

A revised environmental impact assessment (EIA) has been submitted by Aguas de Antofagasta for the 86,000 m³/d desalination plant for Antofagasta in Chile’s Region II, according to Business News America on 21 September 2011.

The reverse-osmosis plant will be fed through a 1.2 km pipeline from an intake building on the seafront near the Coloso campus of Universidad de Antofagasta. The 10m-dia intake will be at the end of a 934m-long pipeline finishing 23 m below sea level.

If the Environment Ministry improves the new EIA, the project should be tendered in February 2012 with completion scheduled for July 2014.
