Kwazulu-Natal district consults on seawater desalination

The Ugu district municipality on South Africa’s KwaZulu-Natal south coast is exploring the possibility of desalination amid a “dire” water shortage.

“We need to explore a long-term option – that is desalination said municipality leader, France Zama. He we went on to describe the drought situation as “dire”. 

Ahead of consultation with the district community he said: “We’re going to explore ideas from experts in terms of how we can go about looking at seawater as a possible option to alleviate the problem that we currently have,” he said.
