An unnamed investor has been secured by the Kazakh government to support a new desalination plant on the Caspian coast.
The one investor is the first of what will be three, said Nurbek Karassayev, head of industrial and innovative development in Mangistau region, which is where the plant is slated to be built.
The project is to be jointly implemented by the state-owned oil and gas companies KazMunayGas, and OzenMunayGaz, and will be located in Karakiyan, Mangistau, in the country’s south west corner.
The Caspian Sea is the largest enclosed inland body of water on Earth by area, and is a valuable source of water for the country.
