IDE in talks with Hawaii desalination plant proposer

Desalination designer and builder IDE Technologies has confirmed to D&WR that it has been talking with billionaire Larry Ellison, who is proposing to build a 2.5 MGD (9,500 m³/d) seawater desalination plant on the island of Lanai.

Ellison owns 98% of Lanai, the sixth largest island in Hawaii.

According to Hawaii News Now, the desalination plant will be located next to Manele Bay Hotel and Lanai’s sewage works. Workers from Ellison’s Lanai Resorts have begun drilling pilot wells to test the feasibility of the plan, it says.
