The desalination intake and discharge research project being undertaken by the Long Bearch Water Department was granted a five-year extension by the California Coastal Commission on 14 July 2011.
The Under Ocean Floor Seawater Intake & Discharge System was due to last into 2012 but can now remain in place until 2017.
