Chinese steel manufacturer chooses KMS UF membranes

Koch Membrane Systems Inc (KMS) announced on 12 December 2011 that it had been selected to supply ultrafiltration (UF) membranes for a large-scale wastewater recycling system for Yingkou Medium Plate Co Ltd in Yingkou City, Liaoning Province, China.

The project will recycle the plant’s wastewater to meet strict government discharge regulations and to conserve the region’s fresh water supply.

KMS will supply 832 Targa® 10-in cartridges as well as the necessary engineering support for the Yingkou project, working in cooperation with Capital Engineering & Research Incorporation Ltd (CERI), the engineering firm responsible for designing and building the system, which is designed to handle an annual average flow of 80,000 m³/d. Start-up is scheduled for early 2012.

“This will be our second time using Targa UF membranes for a wastewater recovery project,” said Yang Gaofeng, vice general manager of CERI and project manager for the Yingkou system. “I am very confident of the success of this project based on our past experience.”

Yingkou processes 1.5 Mt of steel plates annually and maintains operations in iron-casting, continuous casting, milling, oxygen abstracting and power generation.
