Acciona Agua commissions Fouka desalination in Algeria

The commissioning of the Fouka seawater desalination plant in Algeria, which reached full operational capacity in July, was announced by Acciona Agua on 8 August 2011.

The public-private consortium of Acciona Agua of Spain, Lavalin of Canada and Algerian state energy company AEC will now operate the plant for 25 years.

The 120,000 m³/d reverse-osmosis plant, located in Wilaya de Tipaza, Fouka province, just a few kilometres west of Algiers, guarantees a water supply to 500,000 people in Zéralda and the western part of Algiers. Project financing came from Crédit Populaire d’Algérie (80%) and from the consortium (20%).
